| History of Midway |

Midway Plantation, an 1848 Greek Revival plantation house, was built on a wagon trail between Tarboro and what would become Raleigh. Eventually the road would Highway 64 East, a four-lane highway connecting eastern North Carolina and the capitol. The new Outer Loop, I-540, will soon bring thousands of commuters and travelers past the historic site. To maintain the home, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites, Charles Silver and his wife Dena have embarked on a project to move and renovate the house on a quiet piece of land. In June of 2005 the Silvers sold 34 acres of land to a developer who will bring a regional shopping mall to Knightdale. The Silver family still owns land behind the development which is part of the original land grant. Although a tough decision, the sale afforded the Silver's the opportunity to move the plantation house to a new site and to renovate the home to its original stature as the home of a prominent North Carolinian, Charles Lewis Hinton and his family.
